Ruth whyte bequest

After marrying in England in the s, Ruth Whyte came to Albury as a young woman and quickly joined in the musical life of the region. While she lived in Melbourne from , the Albury-Wodonga region remained very dear to her.

She was a lover of classical music and during her life generously sponsored various local musical events. On her death in , she directed that part of her Estate be used for the advancement of music in the Albury-Wodonga region. A committee has been established to oversee the management of the Bequest.

The committee has established guidelines for the use of the Bequest, in terms of the management of the principal sum and the income accruing from its investment. These guidelines include that certain of the income of the Bequest shall be made available annually for worthwhile projects in accordance with the terms of the will of Ruth Whyte.

The well-meaning library board is infected with the same brick-and-mortar mindset that caused a former Aspen Historical Society board to squander a substantial bequest by Ruth Whyte on consultants, headhunters and gypsum board at the exclusion of any new museum content.

Yes, the parking garage needs a waterproof roof sooner or later, but its reinforced concrete beams appear strong enough to support several more library floors for reading and meetings and still support a full-roof garden as well as balconies for viewing the park and Shakespeare performances. With the Aspen Institute and pending Aspen Art Museum, we have enough empty meeting rooms and museum space to last us well into the next decade.
