What a comprehensive article. Answered all of my questions. I have some Dollar Store glass plates that I would love to dress up with a monogram. Now I think I have the confidence to do it! In terms of centered placement, using the hinge method just like putting a screen protector on a cell phone would probably be very effective.
Align the design as wanted before removing any of the backing. Then, using a piece or two depending on size of the design of tape along one edge of the transfer paper, create a hinge. Once you have the tape hinge attached to the surface, peel the backing off from the stencil and carefully flip the design back into place. Use the scraper as normal to seal the design in place.
Remove the tape along with the transfer paper before etching. These are great tips and pointers, Zipporah! Thank you for spelling them out in such detail. What a wonderful resource for others!

I recommend you curve your decal a bit like a taco so only the center touches the glass, then press from the center out toward the edges to smooth it into position.
This will give you a better seal with fewer creases or bubbles. Use your scraper over the entire surface of the transfer tape to adhere the vinyl well to your glass. First, remember to wear gloves, an apron, and protective glasses. Safety first! Using a regular brush avoid foam brushes , brush on the minimum amount needed to cover the glass. You do NOT need to gob it on. Brush the etching cream around your design for five full minutes. Brush up and down, side to side, and diagonally.
Keep the cream moving around your design, getting into every nook and cranny. After five minutes, rinse off the etching cream or if you used a lot, scrape it back into the container first and then rinse. Make sure you get ALL of the cream off. It was made by Glad, it did not take the etching very well. I cannot find any where where it tells me what you used to make the etched area white. Thanks in advance Sherrie. We just used Armour Etch cream to etch the design! Just did my first etch…on a Dollar Tree glass plate. So when I wash after adding glads etch my design is disappearing. The problem you may be having, Danielle, is your glassware. Some glassware, however, cannot be etched properly. What you need to look for is the amount of borosilicate in your glass!
Older Pyrex made before and dishes from IKEA and some other places seem to have a large amount of borosilicate in them. This is because borosilicate is a harder type of glass. In Crafts. December 5, You can make these amazing projects and more! Instructions Gather your stencil vinyl and place on your cutting mat. Adjust the width of the image to 6. Then, move your text on top of the image. Next, select both the name and the image, and align the center, using the dropdown menu at the top of the screen. Make sure your text layer is above the image layer in the layers panel. You will now have 3 layers. You can either hide or delete the first two layers as shown in Screenshot 5.
Select the Make It button. Proceed to cut out your vinyl and weed away the unnecessary parts. Place onto the outside bottom of your baking dish. Starting in the center, press down and move to the outer edges. Try to remove any bubbles. Peel away the transfer tape. Put your gloves on and start applying your etching cream to the glass using a popsicle stick or paint brush. Leave on the dish for about 3 minutes, while continuing to brush the cream onto the dish.
Rinse the excess cream away with water, and dry with a paper towel. Remove the stencil vinyl from the glass and enjoy your new customized baking dish!
