Step 1: The process works the same on smartphones, although the interface looks a bit different. First, open the email from the sender you want to block. Select the dots icon to open the drop-down menu. You will use the same drop-down menu you employed to block someone as you do to unblock them.
Both options also have a dark gray banner at the top of an email that came from a blocked sender. You can click the Unblock Sender button on this banner to unblock that address, too. Not only should you block these email addresses, but you should also file a police report for harassment and ask for further information about cybersecurity laws in your city.
Galaxy Buds 2. Unibox is excellent for grouping your messages by sender, threading conversations, and providing handy attachment previews. By the way, if you prefer sticking to using the native Mail app on your Mac, you can also block an unwanted contact there. Just open the email and click on the downward arrow next to the name of the sender and select Block:.
Now that you know how to block emails from unwanted senders on Gmail, you can also permanently stop spam emails from getting into your Inbox. Gmail has a handy spam filter for this task, and you can add unwanted senders to the list just by opening a spam message, clicking the three dots icon, as described above, but instead of Block, select Report spam:.
Just move the spam message to the Spam or Junk folder. That should sync up to your Gmail as well. Note that sometimes the Spam folder is located in the dedicated [Gmail] folder of your email client. In Canary Mail, just move unwanted messages to the Spam folder, and it syncs with your Gmail, where the message also goes to Spam.
Find the messages you want to report, open and move as shown above. Alternatively, you can select several messages and click the exclamation mark icon to move them to Spam in bulk:. Gmail has long been putting in great effort into perfecting their spam filters. They let the user decide what counts as spam and allow restoring emails from the Spam folder to Inbox if the user marks a message as not spam.
So if you want to whitelist an email address, you can do that too. There are two ways to do this. You can open the message you got from the sender you want to whitelist, click the three dots icon at the top right corner of the email, and select Filter messages like this:.
Or, if you have the email you want to whitelist handy, just go to Settings by clicking the wheel icon at the top right of your Inbox and select See all settings. Go to Filters and Blocked Addresses and press Create new filter:. Fill out any parameters you need within the filter:. You can just leave everything empty and only list the email address you need messages filtered from. Press Create filter and select the action parameters for it:. On this final step, you are asked to set the desired action for your filter whenever your Gmail account gets a message fitting the filter parameters.
To whitelist an email address, tick Never send it to Spam. Click Create filter, and you are done! Note: When you create these rules to filter out unwanted emails, only new emails will be affected. You have to click Also apply filter to [X] matching conversations to affect the older mails in your inbox that match the criteria.
All deleted emails are available in the Trash for 30 days. You can manually check the trash folder for any important mail caught by the filter. Unblock the domain by deleting the rule. Select the filter in the list and click on Delete. You can take a few steps to stop spam in your inbox. But using the spam button is the nuclear option and you should reserve it from persistent junk mail.
Use the Block option for email addresses you recognize but don't want in your inbox right now. For example, marketing emails from a bank can be blocked and then removed when you decide to become a subscriber. Blocking or unblocking a contact you know is a straightforward process in any email client.
The tougher battle is against the spammers who use clever workarounds like changing the email addresses or spoofing to flood your inbox. Blocking doesn't work and marking them as spam is also ineffective sometimes. The Delete button can be your best friend. You can also use smart Gmail filters with keywords to stop automated emails and keep a cleaner inbox.
